100 Monkeys Madness - Pre-Tour

03/12/11

Here I sit 9 days before the start of the UK leg of 100 Monkeys’ UK Tour and the word “excited” doesn’t really begin to cover my feelings right now.  It’s been over six months since the dates were announced and the tickets first went on sale so you’d think I’d be over the initial bout of yayness that struck back in May/June when this all began.  But really it didn’t just begin there, we’ve been waiting for years for the band to cross The Pond and come to Europe, and now they spoil us with a whole bunch of dates, five of which are in the UK!  The countdown is getting lower and lower and we’re now into single digits, woohoo :-D.

I’ve got a busy couple of weeks ahead: as well as five 100 Monkeys gigs and the hundreds of miles of travelling that goes with those,  I have two Ginger Wildheart gigs that sit like bookends before and after the Monkey Madness, and the small matter of a family wedding in there too.  I’m so glad that I have an understanding boss who has let me rearrange my working life for the time around all of this :-).

So, back to the arrangements.  Ginger in Newcastle on Friday night, family wedding Saturday, then off to Manchester on Sunday night for the start of the main feature on Monday!  I’ll be bouncing around from Manchester to Glasgow to Birmingham to London before finally getting home early the following Monday morning, hopefully no worse for wear and with nothing that some sleep and caffeine won’t take care of.

Gig tickets - check.  Hotels booked - check.  Coaches and trains booked - check.  And all printed out and organised ready to go.  Suitcase packed?  Well, almost!  Just gotta get through another week at work without exploding due to the excitement…. Easy, right?!

Today will also be spent remembering two very special people, both of whom passed away far too early, coincidentally both on 3rd December 2006 through the evil of Cancer.

To my friend Trace:  I’ll never forget you and the light you brought into the lives of all who knew you.  I miss you and think of you often, and imagine the telling off I would get for moping - along with patented Geordie Ma Finger…. Love you xxxxxx.

Also we remember the great Spencer Bell.  Though I’m a relative newcomer to his music and poetry, the world lost another shining soul the day he left us.

Tonight we drink to gratitude.
